Biography

Colin van Noordt is a PhD Researcher at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), in Estonia. He is working as an External Expert for the European Commission's AI Watch team, where he is contributing to the research activities on the use of AI within public services. He is co-author of the AI Watch Artificial Intelligence in public services report from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and is actively publishing on the use of AI in government. He is a regular speaker at conferences and workshops on AI and is advising the AI4GOV Steering Board of the Belgium government. Before his current research activities, he graduated magna cum laude from the joint-master degree in Public Sector Innovation and eGovernance at the University of Leuven, the University of Münster and TalTech. During his studies, he assisted the organisation of the high-level conference Tallinn Digital Summit in both 2018 and 2019 and was a Visiting Researcher at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre Seville.

Biography

Slavko Žitnik is an assistant professor at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty for computer and information science. He is teaching courses related to databases, natural language processing, information retrieval and information systems. He is actively engaged in multiple research projects related to semantic technologies, such as coreference resolution or knowledge base constructions. He is cooperating with a number of research institutions - University of Belgrade, Sorbonné Universite Paris 1, University of South Florida and Harvard University. Apart from research he tries to productivize research results together with the needs of companies and this paper is a research result of such collaborations.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Blaž Zupan teaches artificial intelligence and machine learning at the University of Ljubljana and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His research has focused on explainable AI and combinations of machine learning and data visualization techniques. He runs a twenty-member bioinformatics laboratory, which also develops Orange (http://orangedatamining.com), a comprehensive open-source toolbox for machine learning. He has published his work in more than a hundred articles that have received in total over ten thousand citations. He is the recipient of the Zois Award (2010), two Golden Plaques of the University of Ljubljana (2011, 2019), a Fulbright Scholarship (2013), and is a six-time recipient of the FRI Best Teacher Award (2008-2017). Res Publica, Financial Times, Visegrad Fund, and Google enlisted him in the Top 100 Most Influential Innovators of Central and Eastern Europe (2016). He consults companies and public organizations in the fields of data-driven production and management, decision support systems, explainable AI, AI and machine learning training.
